BAGHDAD – A young and respected Iraqi terrorist and jihadist expert was killed in Baghdad while getting into his car. Hisham al-Hashimi he was a researcher in security and strategic affairs, known for his studies on the Islamic State and had been an adviser to Iraqi ministers and politicians. Hashimi was getting into the car near his home in the Zeyouneh neighborhood when 3 men on motorbikes approached him and hit him with many gunshots. He was a very popular and respected expert in Iraq: present very often on TV, to help understand the dynamics of the armed groups and militias that in recent years have conquered a decisive role in Iraq and in the region.
No one has yet claimed responsibility for the murder, but Hashimi had always spoken openly and critically about the armed groups present on the Iraqi scene, first of all the Shiite militias linked to Iran that in recent days have ended up in the sights of the same Iraqi premier, the Shiite Mustafa Al Khadimi , which initiated a raid by the anti-terrorist forces on a base of the main pro-Iranian Shiite militia. In recent weeks, Hashimi had confessed to friends that he was in the sights of the armed militias whose role he had repeatedly denounced out of control.
